America Essay In Racism

There are two original sins in US history – the virtual elimination of Native Americans from the continent and the enslavement of millions of Africans.The former is largely invisible and unacknowledged in our daily lives.Only liberal whites could ever think that we had entered a post-racial phase with the election of President Obama.Most whites continue to deny the existence of racism or are active racists.Northern liberal Democrats caved into the political expediency of their generation.

They allowed the southern plantation class to retain ownership of the land, the land cleared and made productive by slaves.He would often make remarks about our past president, Barack Obama.He would comment on his skin color and because of his race he wasn’t fit to be our president.We are here for a reason because our ancestors wanted a new opportunity and a better life. People are judged for simple things like race, or religion.Throughout history, people set out for the Americas seeking a fresh start.And even in using this word “white” we encounter the shifting sands of racism in American history.Just a hundred years ago many of the people who now identify as white were not considered white by the ruling white elite.Similarly, public education has remained as segregated as ever following similar lines of self-justifying thinking.White America needs to face up to its history and demand that the government, rich and corporations take concrete actions to end white supremacist policies.America has welcomed any and everyone, no matter race or religion. In the music industry people judge her because of her race. And it’s the thing that makes me want to prove people wrong.This is her perspective-- “When I started to experience the difference – or even have my race be highlighted – it was mostly when I would do business deals… It almost excites me; I know what they’re expecting and I can’t wait to show them that I’m here to exceed those expectations.” she wants to prove to everyone that her race doesn’t define her, that she is more than that.
